Major General Shukhrat Khalmukhamedov has been appointed the new Minister of Defense by a presidential decree, the president’s spokesman Sherzod Asadov said on Sunday.
Since March 2021, Shukhrat Khalmukhamedov had held the position of First Deputy Minister of Defense/Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces. Previously, he worked as Deputy Minister of Defense, Deputy Secretary of the Security Council under the President and Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations.
The sacked chief of the State Security Service, Abdusalom Azizov, has reportedly been transferred to the personnel reserve of the Security Council Secretariat. That means that Azizov is not holding any position.
