Customs officers prevented an attempt to export ancient coins through the Karshi airport in the Kashkadarya province, the press service of the provincial Customs Committee said.
The man H. H. took a flight to Moscow. During an X-ray check of his carry-on baggage, and a personal search with the participation of witnesses afterwards found 116 metal coins over 50 years old, representing historical and cultural value, and which were not declared.
The seized coins were handed over to the State Museum of History and Culture of the Kashkadarya province. The Agency for Cultural Heritage found that among the coins there are specimens dating back to the period of the Bukhara Emirate.
An administrative case has been launched on this fact, the case has been submitted to the court.
Year-to-date, employees of the Karshi Airport customs post have prevented 10 attempts to illegally transport cultural values that are of historical significance. The total value of the 168 items is at over 10 million soums.
