On the sidelines of the COP29 Climate Summit in Baku, at the Uzbekistan Pavilion, the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the presidential press service said.

The parties discussed the ways to strengthen cooperation on issues of Uzbekistan’s accession to the WTO.

They commended the holding of meetings by the Working Group, as well as the trends of negotiations with WTO member countries.

Reportedly, active work is underway to harmonize national legislation with the norms and rules of the WTO, including the abolition of export subsidies.

The parties also focused on improving the skills of Uzbek specialists in matters of regulating international trade and exchanged views on measures to support Uzbekistan's efforts to complete negotiations and the country's accession to the WTO in the coming years.
