President Shavkat Mirziyoyev congratulated the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on her re-election to this position, the president’s spokesman said.
In his message, Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the “huge personal contribution” of Ursula von der Leyen to upgrading the ties between Uzbekistan and the EU to a “new level” and voiced the confidence that “with joint efforts, cooperation in all priority areas will be brought to a higher level.”
He also emphasized Uzbekistan’s commitment to the speedy signing of the Agreement on Enhanced Cooperation and Partnership.
“I am confident that holding the first summit Central Asia - European Union in the city of Samarkand in the near future will be an important practical step towards enriching our regional ties with mutually beneficial projects and programs,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev added.
On July 18, the European Parliament approved the candidacy of Ursula von der Leyen for the position of head of the European Commission (the highest executive body in the European Union) for a second, a five-year term.
