The leaders of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Sadyr Japarov attended the launch ceremony of major projects, the presidential press service said in a statement.

The projects of two PV plants with a total capacity of 400 megawatts has been launched in the Fergana and Namangan provinces. The generated power will be supplied to Kyrgyzstan. 

Cobalt, Onyx and Tracker, commercial vehicles and trucks production unit was launched in Chui province. 

The production of sewing, knitwear and linens has started in the city of Kara-Balta. 

“The two presidents voiced confidence that these projects would contribute to the expansion of mutually beneficial practical cooperation between our countries,” the statement said. 

Before the ceremony, the leaders discussed cooperation in the transport, energy, agriculture and water management, ecology, security and other areas. 

While, they also explored the ways to increase two-way trade between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan through import substitution programs and support for cooperation projects. In the coming years, the countries plan to increase the volume of two-way trade to $2 billion. 

The parties identified cooperation in the energy sector as a strategic direction. The presidents noted the importance of the speedy signing of the agreement and the start of construction of the Kambarata HPP-1. The countries also agreed to prepare a comprehensive cooperation program for the development of small hydropower. 

To develop trade between the provinces of the two countries, a schedule of mutual visits of delegations will be prepared and joint road maps will be updated.
