President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev told to the Russian President Vladimir Putin that one of the streets of New Tashkent city will be named Saint Petersburg.

"That is great! It will be the most beautiful street," answered the Russian president.

Governor Alexander Beglov also reacted to the initiative of the Uzbek authorities.

"We are honored with this decision for our city and it will be a symbol of our close, friendly relations with the Republic of Uzbekistan and the city of Tashkent. "Partnership with Uzbekistan has been and will remain one of the main priorities of St. Petersburg in the field of international cooperation," he added.

Last week, in Smolny, Alexander Beglov met with the Tashkent city deputy mayor, Sharof Rahmonov. The cities will cooperate in line with the "Roadmap" for the development of interprovincial cooperation for 2022-2026 between the government of St. Petersburg and the Tashkent city administration. In April 2024, the St. Petersburg Days were held in Tashkent, and it is planned to hold the Tashkent Days in St. Petersburg this fall.
