Law enforcement agencies launched a probe after a report that the deputy principal of one of an Andijan school could be regularly harassing sixth-grade students.

Parents of schoolgirls reported that the deputy principal “would take two or three girls to his office after school, and in some cases, during class.”

The school administration invited the students' mothers and, during a 47-minute talk, argued that disclosing the information would damage the school's reputation. As for the deputy principal, the school management said that he “is not that kind of person, perhaps it’s the girls themselves.”

Parents did not send their children to school for several days. On May 10, they contacted the regional department of preschool and school education and got the deputy principal to sign a letter of resignation.

The department's press secretary, Umarkhoja Madaminov, said that parents did not contact the school on May 10, but that day the school principal and his deputy were called. Reportedly, the deputy principal filed a resignation request, but the letter was not accepted due to the fact that he went on sick leave.

According to him, the complaint was received by the prosecutor's office, and the police is handling the case.

The official statement says that the situation is under the personal oversight of the head of the provincial police department. The findings of the study will be made public after collecting complete information and conclusions from law enforcement agencies.

The press service of Children's Ombudsman Surayyo Rakhmonova reported that on May 7, a 67-year-old woman, whose granddaughter goes to school No. 1 in Andijan, contacted the school administration and the inspector-psychologist and reported that the 34-year-old deputy principal M.K. her 12 year old granddaughter. According to her, this has happened before.

Now the Andijan city police department is conducting a pre-investigation check. The Children's Ombudsman has taken the situation under supervision.
