Canal France International (CFI), the French media development agency, has organised for the first time a Regional Forum in Tashkent, from 6 to 8 May at the Panarams Hotel.
Organised in partnership with the French embassies in Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, with the support of the Agency for Mass Information and Communications, the National Media Association, the University of Journalism and the Foundation for Mass Media Development, the forum brought together more than 150 journalists from France, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
A rich and varied programme
Over three days, round table sessions and workshops addressed the main issues facing contemporary journalism in Central Asia. Topics on the agenda included techniques for countering disinformation, journalistic ethics, media litteracy, the modern challenges of journalism and cooperation between the French and Central Asian media.
An opportunity for collective reflection
The Tashkent Regional Forum offered participants a unique opportunity to share their experiences and discuss the challenges facing journalism in the region. It laid the foundations for future cooperation between French and Central Asian media and institutions.
The Forum was also an opportunity to propose innovative solutions for restoring confidence in journalism and combating misinformation. Finally, this regional event enabled the journalists invited to extend their regional network and, ultimately, to have access to tools enabling them to increase their audience.
