According to Aamaj News, the Taliban Ministry of Higher Education has prohibited the translation of scientific works for academic promotion into Turkish and Uzbek languages.

The ministry has instructed the departments of Uzbek and Turkish language and literature at universities, especially in northern Afghanistan, to translate foreign scientific works for academic promotion into the official languages of Pashto and Persian.

Previously, professors of Uzbek and Turkish language and literature translated foreign scientific works into Uzbek for academic promotion.

With the Taliban’s anti-Persian stance escalating, the group has changed all official documents of institutions to Pashto and eradicated Persian cultural works and figures.

However, this is the first clear instance of the Taliban preventing the use of Turkish and Uzbek languages in northern provinces where Uzbek speakers reside.
