Gazprom is mulling expansion of its operations in Central Asia by opening a representative office in Uzbekistan, Interfax said. It currently holds offices in Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
The potential establishment of an office in Uzbekistan will be discussed at a conference call meeting of Gazprom’s Board of Directors, scheduled for May 6. The parties will address strategic decisions regarding Gazprom’s involvement in Central Asia.
The discussion of an additional office comes after the initiation of gas supplies to Uzbekistan in October 2023. These supplies are facilitated through the Central Asia-Centre gas transmission system, which operates in reverse mode, under a two-year contract for the export of 9 mln cubic meters of gas per day.
Gazprom plans to begin negotiations for fifteen-year gas supply contracts with Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Kyrgyzstan in the upcoming summer, with the expectation to sign these contracts by autumn 2025.
Gazprom's presence in Uzbekistan is already established with two affiliates based on the most recent list published in 2021. The proposed new office would further integrate Gazprom's operations in Uzbekistan and Central Asia.
