The population of Uzbekistan as of July 1 stood at 32.345 million people, an increase by 224.5 thousand from 31 December 2016, or by 0.7%. The urban population is 16.353 million (or 50.6% of total population), and the rural population is 15.9 million (49.4%), the Statistics Committee announced on its website.

In the first six months of 2017, 311.9 thousand children were born, which is by 6,000 less to the same period in 2016. The birth rate was 19.5 ppm.

The highest decrease in the birth rate was observed in the Tashkent, Kashkadarya, Ferghana, Khorezm, Jizzakh, Namangan, Bukhara, Samarkand provinces and the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

The number of deaths in January-June amounted to 78.8 thousand people,  an 4,900 people increase. The death rate was 4.9 ppm (in January-June 2016 - 4.7 ppm). The death rate increased significantly in the Andijan, Djizak, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Surkhandarya, Ferghana, Khorezm provinces and the Republic of Karakalpakstan. A decrease in the death rate is observed in Tashkent, and the lowest death rate is recorded in Kashkadarya, Bukhara, Djizak and Samarkand provinces.

In total mortality, circulatory system diseases account for 62.1%, 8.8% - neoplasms, 5.5% - diseases of digestive system, 5.4% - accidents, poisoning and trauma, 5.1% - respiratory diseases , 1.7% - infectious and parasitic diseases, 11.4% - other diseases.

In the half-year, 3,900 children died before the age of 1 year. The infant mortality rate was at 10.9 ppm (in January-June 2016 - 10.2 ppm). High rates of infant mortality are recorded in Tashkent, Khorezm, Andijan, Djizzak, Syrdarya, Namangan provinces and the Republic of Karakalpakstan.

Of the total number of children who died before the age of 1 year, 56.2% died of conditions originating during the perinatal period, 23.2% - respiratory diseases, 11.8% - congenital anomalies, 3% - infectious and parasitic diseases , 1.3% - accidents, poisonings and injuries, 0.2% - diseases of digestive system, 4.3% - other diseases.

In January-June, the civil registry office registered 96.3 thousand marriages and 15.6 thousand divorces, which is 6 marriages per 1000 people (5.9 marriages in January-June 2016) and 1 divorce (in January-June 2016 Year - 0,9 divorces).
