Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, discussed with the Georgian Deputy Prime Minister/Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Levan Davitashvili the development of transport and logistics ties between the two countries.
The parties, in particular, exchanged views on increasing the number of regular flights between Uzbekistan and Georgia and launching new flights.
Ilkhom Makhkamov supported the proposal of the Georgian Deputy PM to launch flights to Samarkand from Georgia.
Levan Davitashvili expressed his readiness to help Uzbek businesses in the construction of ports and terminals on the Black Sea coast of Georgia.
The parties also agreed to increase the number of exchanges of permit forms for international transport.
In 2022, the volume of export-import traffic of Uzbekistan through the Georgian ports of Poti and Batumi topped 864 thousand tons. This figure is 72% more than in 2021 (503 thousand tons).
Uzbekistan plans to build and lease for a long term of sea terminals, as well as warehouses in the sea ports of Georgia. A memorandum on this was signed during the visit of a government delegation led by Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov in July.
