The Brazilian government is exploring the perspectives of opening an embassy in Tashkent. This was discussed at a meeting between the Uzbek Ambassador to the US, Furqat Sidiqov and the Ambassador of Brazil to the United States Maria Viotti in Washington on October 5, Dunyo news agency reports.

Furqat Sidiqov handed over to Maria Viotti a copy of his credentials on his appointment as Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Brazil stationed in Washington.

Maria Viotti reported that the Brazilian Foreign Ministry authorized her to receive a copy of her credentials in order to expedite the accreditation of the Ambassador.

“On behalf of my government, I thank the leadership of Uzbekistan for the decision to appoint an envoy in Brazil. I believe that this will serve to upgrade the bilateral agenda,” said Maria Viotti.

Furqat Sidiqov noted that Uzbekistan sought to make every effort to comprehensively advance the ties with Brazil, as well as in developing extensive joint trade and investment projects in the fields of agriculture, industry and defense.

The Ambassador of Brazil noted that the two-way trade in recent years had grown to an unprecedented 500 million US dollars in January-August, and Uzbekistan had become Brazil's top trade partner in the Central Asian region.

She stated that it supported the export of various goods from Uzbekistan and proposed to develop joint projects for the export of mineral fertilizers and food products from Uzbekistan.

The parties agreed to organize a visit of the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Brazil before the year-end with the aim of presenting credentials to the President Luis da Silva.

During the visit, it is planned to work out the issues of negotiations with representatives of large businesses, chambers of commerce and industry, various commercial associations and heads of mature enterprises, with a main focus on the economic agenda.

Furqat Sidiqov began working as ambassador to the United States in February. In early May, he presented his credentials to US President Joe Biden.
