Legendary singer, musician, composer, and a person who shaped an epoch, Sherali Juraev passed away at the age of 76, Uzbekconcert said on Monday. Shermat (Sherali) Juraev was born in 1947 in Lenin (now Asaka) district of Andijan province. In 1966-1971 he studied at the Tashkent State Institute of Art after Mannon Uygur. 

For more than 50 years, he wrote more than 1000 songs, converted the poems of famous Uzbek poets to music. Author of the theater concert: History Sings. He wrote the script and was the lead actor in the film Sherali and Oybarchin.

Among his most famous songs: O’zbegim, Egasi Bor Yurt, Karvon, Sarbon, Inson Qasidasi, Birinchi Muhabbatim, Yoshligimiz, Oy Yuzingga, Oshiqlar Sardori, Do'st Bolsang, Yonimda Tur and many others.

In 1981, Sherali Juraev was awarded the title of Honored Artist, in 1987 - People's Artist of Uzbekistan. He also received the title of People's Artist of Tajikistan (2018). In 2018 he was awarded the Fidokorona Khizmatlari Uchun Order.

In April 2022, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev awarded the artist with the El-Yurt Khurmati Order for his 75th birthday. The head of state noted the artist's contribution in transcribing classical poetry to music and promoting the Uzbek national heritage among young people and the world community.

The artist also served as chairman of the board of trustees of the Vatandoshlar public foundation.

According to media reports, from 1993 to 2016, Sherali Juraev’s songs were banned from stage and he did not perform at major concert venues in Uzbekistan from 1993 to 2016, his songs were not broadcast on radio and TV. After Shavkat Mirziyoyev became president, he returned to the big stage.
