Presidential candidate Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during a rally with voters in Tashkent, called the burning of the Holy Quran in Sweden an atrocity and strongly condemned this act.

“We are absolutely against any forms of radicalism and extremism that show disrespect for the religious values of different nations and peoples. In particular, we strongly condemn the recent atrocity committed in Sweden in the form of the burning of the Holy Quran.

“Such cases that offend the religion and noble feelings of millions of people on earth cannot be allowed,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

Earlier, Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Morocco and Islamic countries condemned another burning of the Quran in Sweden, carried out by an Iraqi refugee Salwan Momika.

Iraqi authorities called his action as racist and irresponsible.

Momika burned a copy of the Koran in the park near Stockholm's main mosque on Wednesday, the first day of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, celebrated around the world.

The Stockholm police guarded the action and were ready for possible disturbances of public order, which, however, did not follow.
