Uzbekistan and the United States confirmed their commitment to further strengthening of strategic partnership, investment cooperation and expansion of mutual trade.
The Uzbek delegation led by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khojaev visited Washington and held a number of meetings with US government officials and representatives and leaders of major American companies.
According to the Ministry of Investments, Industry and Trade, talks were held with US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Donald Lu, US Deputy Secretary of Commerce Alan Esteves, Deputy US Trade Representative Sarah Bianchi, Chairwoman of the US-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce Carolyn Lemm and other officials.
During the meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu, the parties discussed the ways to expand and strengthen strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and the US. Donald Lu admitted that the United States were ready to continue cooperation with the implementation of major projects.
Also, the parties discussed the trade and investment cooperation, in these areas emphasized that there were great opportunities for expanding relations and agreed to develop cooperation within the framework of the acceleration of the process of Uzbekistan joining the World Trade Organization (WTO).
During the conversation with Alan Esteves, US Deputy Secretary of Commerce, head of the Bureau of Industry and Security, the parties exchanged views the two-way trade. Alan Esteves highly valued Uzbekistan's efforts to improve the efficiency of trade processes.
In the talks with US Deputy Trade Representative Sarah Bianchi, the sides focused on strengthening Uzbekistan's investment attractiveness, eliminating trade barriers and further facilitating trade operations. At the meeting, they highlighted successful operation US companies implementing joint investment projects in Uzbekistan in energy, mechanical engineering, textiles, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and other fields.
During the visit, a roundtable discussion was organized with the participation of the members of the American-Uzbekistan Chamber of Commerce and American big business leaders.
At the end of the visit, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen strategic partnership, expand investment cooperation and the two-way trade.
