The delegation led by the European Union Special Representative for Central Asia Teri Khakala during a visit to Tashkent on May 30 held talks with the Minister of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan Pulat Bobozhonov, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.

The Minister Bobozhonov briefed on the steps taken by Uzbekistan to turn the Uzbek neigbourhoods into areas free from crime, as well as reforms in the judicial and legal sphere.

The parties discussed the ways to combat international terrorism and extremism, human trafficking, drugs and other types of transnational crimes, as well as deepening interaction and exchange of experience.

In this area, the Ministry of Internal Affairs cooperates with the European Union, in particular, in the promotion of border management in Central Asia (BOMCA-10 program), assistance in strengthening the knowledge of law enforcement officers in the Central Asian region (LEICA), drug prevention in Central Asia (CADAP) and migrants repatriation (EURLO).

More than 300 policemen attended the training courses as part of these projects.

At the event, the sides reached an agreement on cooperation between the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Uzbekistan and the European Union "to develop a constant dialogue and exchange of experience through industry projects, as well as to organize regular advanced training for specialists."
