Kyrgyz city of Cholpon-Ata will host the second European Union-Central Asia Summit on June 2 under the Kyrgyz chairmanship, the presidential press service said.
According to the Kyrgyz government website, the summit will be attended by the president of the European Council, Charles Michel, the presidents of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Deputy PM of Turkmenistan Nurmuhammet Amannepesov.
The parties are expected to discuss the current state and the ways to advance the political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two regions, and exchange views on topical issues on the international agenda and interaction between the states of Central Asia and the European Union.
In addition, President Sadyr Japarov will hold bilateral meetings with heads of delegations.
The maiden summit of the heads of the European Union and Central Asia took place in Astana on October 27, 2022. President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in his remarks, said that the global and regional situation requires more active EU support for integration in Central Asia. He also proposed to develop within this format a strategic program to deepen trade and economic cooperation and develop transport and communication interconnectivity.
