Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are planning to open three border checkpoints, Kaktus.Media reported. Footage surfaced on the social networks showing Uzbek authorities demolishing a wall on the border of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. As it turned out, the video was filmed on the border of the Jalal-Abad province of Kyrgyzstan and the Andijan province of Uzbekistan.

The frontier authority of Kyrgyzstan reported that Uzbekistan was demolishing the wall at the Bek-Abad-Khanabad checkpoint, which was mothballed in 2010 by Uzbekistan unilaterally. At that time, the Kara-Suu and Kara-Bagysh checkpoints in the Osh province were also closed.

All these locations will be open soon. Kyrgyzstan is fully prepared to resume the passage through these points.

In March 2010, it was reported that Uzbekistan had unilaterally closed the large Karasu-Avtoyul checkpoint connecting Aravan district of the Osh province and Markhamat district of Andijan province. Kyrgyzs living near the border said that not only cars, but also pedestrians are now not allowed through the checkpoint. Those wishing to get to Kyrgyzstan from Uzbekistan by car had to use the Dustlik-Avtodorozhny checkpoint, which is located 25 km from the Karasu checkpoint.

In April last year, the Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan Jeenbek Kulubaev stated that it was planned to open 3-4 more checkpoints at the borders between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in 2022.

Director of the National Investment Agency under the President of Kyrgyzstan Ravshan Sabirov noted that Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan were discussing the issue of opening an additional checkpoint in the border zone in the Jalal-Abad province (on the border with Khanabad). The goal is to unload the transit of transport cargo flows.
