Famous fencer, chief referee of Uzbekistan Fencing Federation, an international referee Aida Khasanova, 39, died on May 23, according to the Fencing federation.
According to the press service of the General Prosecutor's Office, on that day she underwent a cosmetic surgery in one of the private clinics in Tashkent.
Due to the deterioration of her health, she was hospitalized by the decision of the doctor, but in the evening she died in intensive care.
Forensic medical examination has been ordered to find the cause of death. The Chilanzar district prosecutor's office is conducting a pre-investigation probe.
Aida Khasanova was many-time champion of Uzbekistan, champion of Central Asia in 2001-2006, winner of the gold medal of the international tournament in England in 2005.
In 2014, she became the first international referee in Uzbekistan’s history in fencing in three types of sabres.
From the same year she had been a referee of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) and worked at major international championships and tournaments.
In 2015, for the first time, she participated as a referee from Uzbekistan in the finals of the World and Asian Championships.
For her great contribution to the development of fencing, since 2017 she was appointed chief referee of the Uzbekistan Fencing Federation.
In 2019, she was chosen as the first referee from Uzbekistan and Central Asia to participate in the Olympic Games in Tokyo. At these games, she was the only female fencing referee representing Asia.
Since 2020 she has been a member of the FIE Referee Commission.
Aida Khasanova was considered one of the five best fencing referees in the world.
