Today, on May 24, president Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with the president of Singapore Halimah Yakub at the Kuksaroy residence, the presidential press service said today.

Reportedly, the parties focused on the ways to further strengthen political dialogue and inter-parliamentary ties, mutual support within the framework of international organizations, implementation of training programs in the field of public administration, intensification of contacts in the field of public security and cultural humanitarian exchanges.

They underscored the great progress was made in the trade, economic and investment area, with the two-way trade figures increasing several times year-to-date. Singapore has become one of the largest investors in Uzbekistan.

$3.8 billion worth of projects are under implementation in the chemical and textile industries, transport and logistics, urban development, educational services, privatization with such leading Singaporean companies as Indorama, Meinhardt Group, Franklin Templeton, Enercon, PSA, Changi Airport.

They also substantively considered prospects for building up economic cooperation and expressed сonfidence that the outcomes of the Uzbek-Singapore business forum as part of the business program of the visit would serve to expand investment cooperation with leading companies in such areas as trade, logistics, innovation, energy, healthcare.

They reviewed the ways to ensure food security and establishing supplies of fruit and vegetable products to the Singaporean market and reaffirmed a resolute attitude to expand cooperation in the implementation of humanitarian projects. The importance of introducing Singaporean experience in the field of public administration and training of managerial personnel within the framework of a newly created joint educational center based on the Academy of Public Administration under the President was emphasized.

The sides expressed support for the activities of Singaporean universities in Uzbekistan, as well as the intensification of regular cultural, educational and tourist exchanges between the two countries.

The heads of state exchanged views on topical issues of regional integration in Central and Southeast Asia, noted the high level of mutual understanding and mutual support at international platforms, primarily within the UN, as well as in the process of Uzbekistan's entry into the World Trade Organization.
