On May 17, 2023 in an effort to foster collaboration and strengthen economic ties between Europe and Uzbekistan, EUROUZ, in partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to Uzbekistan, organized a European Networking Event at the EBRD 2023 Annual Meeting and Business Forum.
The event took place on Wednesday evening, May 17th, 2023, in the city of Samarkand as the official third-party event of the EBRD Annual Meetings. Invitation-only event, gathered 100 of Europe’s & Uzbekistan’s leading CEOs, ministers, deputy ministers, ambassadors, and representatives of International Financing institutions.
In his welcoming speech Directorate General Trade Director of the European Union – Mr. Leon Delvaux highlighted that Uzbekistan’s joining for a special system of preferences of the European Union (EU) GSP+ is continuing to contribute to the dynamic development of the dialogue between the parties and trade exchanges. Concluding his remarks, Mr. Delvaux stressed that amid the ongoing war in Ukraine, Central Asia is becoming much more essential and favorable platform for boosting regional cooperation with European Union. The welcoming speech was followed by Mr. Zafar Khashimov - CEO and Founder of Korzinka.uz who has recently joined the Directors Board of EUROUZ. Mr. Khashimov emphasized the efforts and the progress by the government of Uzbekistan to create favorable conditions for the development of business environment in the country.
EUROUZ aims to foster a better dialogue on the highest business-to-business level. "We are proud to have organized this event and would like to thank the EU Delegation in Uzbekistan for continued partnership & support, as well as the government of Uzbekistan, the EU Commission, and the EBRD for their willingness to work with us & support European business initiatives. Only close & open dialogue with multiple parties can lead to new opportunities for business and increased investment potential of Uzbekistan," said the Secretary-General of EUROUZ, Mr. Oybek Shaykhov in his remarks.
The European Networking Event concluded with a dinner reception. EUROUZ continues to organise closed and open events for its members, which plays a pivotal role in fostering stronger informal dialogue between EU and Uzbekistan business & public-sector stakeholders as well as supporting a platform for ongoing dialogue between EU and Uzbek businesses.
