The Kazakh Foreign Ministry has approved the request of the current Afghan authorities to accredit their diplomats in Astana. This was announced on April 17 at a briefing by the official representative of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan Aibek Smadiyarov.
According to him, the new administration of Afghanistan requested the authorities of Kazakhstan to accredit diplomats, which Astana has approved.
“Positive decision was made in response to the request of the new administration of Afghanistan to accredit diplomats. To be clear, with the fall of the previous regime in August 2021, a power vacuum has been created in Afghanistan. Embassies of the IRA ceased to represent this state. The situation is complex, but not unique. History knows many examples of a change of power in a number of states, which entails the question of the legitimacy of the new authorities,” he explained.
Aibek Smadiyarov reminded the promise of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, “not to leave Afghanistan on its own with the current difficulties,” which was made in September 2022 immediately after the Taliban came to power.
It was reported earlier that a Kazakh-Afghan business forum was held in Kabul as part of the visit of the Deputy PM/Minister of Trade and Integration of Kazakhstan Serik Zhumangarin to Afghanistan. At the business forum, they announced the opening of a trading house of Kazakhstan in Afghanistan, the head office will be located in the city of Herat.
