Sixth meeting of the working group on Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization is taking place on March 14-15 in Geneva, Switzerland, the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade said.
The meeting is considering over 10 new documents relating to all aspects of the trade regime in Uzbekistan.
Before it began, the delegation of Uzbekistan, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Jamshid Khodjaev, held a number of meetings with officials of international organizations.
In particular, on March 14, the he held talks with WTO Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala.
During the talks, the parties discussed accelerating the process of Uzbekistan's accession to the WTO, pointed to the need to step up bilateral negotiations on access to the market for goods and services with all WTO member countries and signing protocols on their completion in order to accelerate the country's entry into the organization.
The Director General of the WTO welcomed the efforts of the government of Uzbekistan aimed at the country’s accession to the WTO, including the holding of bilateral negotiations with key member countries.
The previous, the fifth meeting of the working group on WTO accession was held in June 2022. Sardor Umurzakov, who was then Deputy PM underscored that due to the pandemic, the process of joining the organization became more difficult. He called on the WTO member countries to be more flexible and assured that Uzbekistan intended to complete the accession process as soon as possible.
