Uzbektelecom has launched a project to implement the fifth-generation 5G technology throughout Uzbekistan as of March, , the spokesman to Uzbektelecom Temur Mamajonov announced today at a briefing.
As part of the project, existing mobile base stations will be modernized and new ones will be installed. At the first stage, the 5G network will fully cover Tashkent and partially Nukus and provincial centers.
In particular, it is planned to upgrade more than 3,000 base stations and launch more than 2,000 new ones. At the end of the year, the next stages of the development of the 5G network will be approved.
“The project will improve the quality of mobile communication throughout Uzbekistan, increase the speed and coverage of LTE mobile Internet,” he added. For the first time, owners of flagship smartphones will be able to use the Internet using 5G technology, he said.
He noted that testing of 5G technology was launched in Uzbekistan in 2019. Last year, the fifth generation network was launched at the Samarkand Tourist Center.
Temur Mamajonov warned that there could be a temporary deterioration in the quality of communication during the modernization of base stations.
