Today, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev addressed the Summit of the contact group of the Non-Aligned Movement, the presidential press service said.

At the beginning of his speech, the Uzbek leader underscored that in recent years, humanity, in addition to fighting the pandemic, is also facing the disastrous consequences of climate change, natural disasters and man-made disasters. Their scale is growing and poses a serious threat to the security and sustainable development of not only individual states, but entire regions, he said.

“Undoubtedly, only by uniting and supporting each other, we will be able to overcome such difficult challenges. In this regard, Uzbekistan stands for the further enhancing of our activities on the basis of the Global Platform to achieve the main goals of the Sendai Framework Program until 2030,” said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

For a deep study of the causes of such emergencies and effective prevention of their consequences, on behalf of Uzbekistan, he proposed the creation of a network for monitoring and scientific research of the Non-Aligned Movement. “We are ready to place this institute in Uzbekistan,” the president added.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev also highlighted that geopolitical and ideological differences have now intensified in the world, under the influence of which new centers of instability are emerging in different regions of the world. “In addition, global solutions to conflicts that have persisted for a long time in the Middle East region and Afghanistan have not yet been found,” the President of Uzbekistan recalled.

He stressed the growing urgency of expanding cooperation within the organization "in the face of the recently increasing threat of terrorism and extremism in all countries."

“Given this, we call on the Non-Aligned Movement to lead our common efforts to strengthen the international legal framework for combating all forms of terrorism. I am firmly convinced that this will further enhance multilateral cooperation of all member states of the movement within the framework of the UN,” the President of Uzbekistan said.

“Undoubtedly, in the systemic coordination and effective solution of these problems at the international level, the main role should belong to the UN and its specialized structures. In the process of reforming the UN, members of the Non-Aligned Movement should find a permanent seat in the Security Council,” the President of Uzbekistan stressed.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev also spoke about this in his speech at the summit. “The composition of the UN Security Council should be expanded to include more countries and make it more geographically fair”. Now the United States, China, Russia, Great Britain and France have a permanent place in the Security Council.

“I hope that you will also support Uzbekistan’s initiative to create an international negotiating group under the UN to agree on an algorithm for resolving the Afghan issue,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev continued his speech. He put forward the idea of an international negotiating group in October 2022 at the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia.

“Another important issue on the global agenda is mitigating the effects of the ongoing economic crisis with no end in sight. We all directly feel the negative impact of the weakening of world trade ties, the disruption of industrial and supply chains. In addition, the growing shortage of food, water and energy resources is becoming a serious test for the socio-economic systems of our countries,” the President emphasized.

“Unfortunately, in such a difficult situation, the main burden of this negative impact falls precisely on developing states. Such authoritative forums as today's summit should open wide economic opportunities for developing cooperation, promoting regional joint programs and major projects. To this end, I propose to regularly hold economic forums of our organization on the eve of the summits of the Non-Aligned Movement,” the head of Uzbekistan said.

He expressed confidence that such events will help accelerate the exchange of innovations, modern knowledge and advanced technologies, in general, create a solid foundation for the fourth industrial revolution, in particular, the development of a smart economy.

The President of Uzbekistan also drew attention to the fact that the negative impact of the pandemic primarily affects the younger generation.

“The opportunities for young people to receive quality education and professions, medical services and sports are drastically reduced. It is especially worrying that the younger generation is losing confidence that in the future they will be able to take their rightful place in life. The influence of destructive and radical ideologies on the minds of thousands of young people is also increasing,” the President emphasized.

He announced his intention to organize next year the "Summit of Limitless Opportunities" of the Youth Network of the Non-Aligned Movement in Samarkand.
