U.S. representative Vicente Gonzalez underscored the intention to make significant progress in removing Uzbekistan from the Jackson-Vanik amendment through passing of a special act for a normal trade regime between the US and Uzbekistan.

According to Dunyo, in order to further expand Uzbek-American inter-parliamentary ties, as well as to establish and develop comprehensive cooperation, Ambassador Javlon Vakhabov held talks with the Republican Senator Tom Cotton from Arkansas and the co-chairs of the Uzbekistan Caucus in the House of Representatives the Texas Democratic Congressman Vicente Gonzalez, and another US representative Pete Sessions.

During the talks, the parties discussed the way to advance bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation, expanding partnerships in trade, economic, investment, transport and humanitarian spheres. During the talks, the Senator Tom Cotton highly the achieved level of bilateral relations, confirmed readiness to contribute to strengthening and expanding the strategic partnership between the US and Uzbekistan. In this context, the senator congratulated the country on the 10th anniversary of the partnership between the Ministry of Defense of Uzbekistan and the Mississippi National Guard.

During the meeting, Javlon Vakhabov congratulated Vicente Gonzalez on his re-election for another term in the House of Representative. In turn, he welcomed the current trend in bilateral relations in all areas, including in the field of parliamentary partnership.

He said that close inter-parliamentary ties should become an important pillar for promoting a multifaceted strategic partnership. The congressman noted the intention to make significant progress in the issue of withdrawing Uzbekistan from the Jackson-Vanik amendment through the adoption of a special act aimed at ensuring a normal trade regime between the United States and Uzbekistan.

Following the meeting with representatives of the US Congress, an agreement was reached to maintain regular contacts on topical issues of the Uzbek-American agenda, including inter-parliamentary relations. US lawmakers have assured that they will continue active efforts to strengthen the bilateral strategic partnership.
