Consultations between the government of Uzbekistan and the French Development Agency (AFD) took place in Tashkent Friday, the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade reported.

The talks established priority areas of cooperation for 2027-2030, including the energy transition and decarbonization, water supply, agriculture, sustainable urban development, private-sector support, and improved public financial management.

During the consultations, the two sides presented an indicative portfolio of 11 projects with a combined estimated value of 1.125 billion euros. The portfolio covers modernization of energy and transport infrastructure, urban development, irrigation and agriculture, the green economy, and expanded non-sovereign financing.

Among the flagship initiatives are the rehabilitation of the Tashkent-Samarkand railway line and the development of Tashkent's public transport system.

The two sides also intend to accelerate work on modernizing drinking water supply systems in Kashkadarya province, reconstructing the Suenli Canal in Karakalpakstan, implementing projects in the Aral Sea region, and upgrading heating networks.

Uzbekistan and AFD are currently preparing nine additional projects with a combined value of 604.2 million euros.

Since 2015, AFD has approved 17 projects in Uzbekistan worth a combined total of nearly 1.6 billion euros. Its active portfolio currently includes 13 projects worth 1.29 billion euros spanning energy, water supply and sanitation, livestock farming, digitalization, the financial sector, and other areas.

Disbursements to date have reached nearly 1 billion euros, or 78 percent of the total value of signed agreements. In addition, more than 55 million euros in grant funding has been mobilized jointly with the European Union and the French government.

The agreements reached during the talks were formalized in the consultation minutes and will be subject to joint monitoring. The next round of consultations is planned to be held in France.

Uzbekistan had previously announced that investors for its energy projects would be selected through an open tender process.
