The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) will hold its Ninth Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors, themed “Building Resilient Infrastructure for All,” on September 25-26, 2024, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. It will be the bank's first meeting in Central Asia.

The Annual Meeting is AIIB’s flagship event, providing a unique opportunity to showcase the Bank’s accomplishments and gain valuable insights and guidance from shareholders on AIIB’s strategic direction and initiatives.

AIIB is a multilateral development bank dedicated to financing sustainable, green, and technology-driven infrastructure to enhance the social and economic well-being of people in Asia and beyond. With 109 members to date, AIIB focuses on fostering sustainable infrastructure, boosting cross-border connectivity, and mobilizing private capital. In Central Asia, AIIB plays a key role in advancing regional connectivity, improving energy and water management, and driving economic growth, all aligned with its vision of Financing Infrastructure for Tomorrow.

Since its founding, the AIIB has invested more than $2 billion in projects in Uzbekistan. In early 2024, this partnership further developed with President Mirziyoyev signing a unique three-year agreement for sovereign-backed projects worth $3.1 billion.

The 2024 Annual Meeting will feature more than 25 panel discussions over two days, focusing on innovations in infrastructure financing, climate resilience, sustainable development, and the digital transformation of infrastructure projects. The Annual Meeting will feature an Opening Ceremony, Governors’ Business Roundtable, Governors’ Official Session, Press Conference and a series of public and civil society engagement events.

Key speakers include AIIB President and Chair of the Board of Directors Jin Liqun, along with senior management and leading representatives from various multilateral development banks such as the International Finance Corporation, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the European Investment Bank, and the Islamic Development Bank. Additionally, experts from international and private organizations, including the United Nations Environment Programme, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Citibank, The Milken Institute, The Rockefeller Foundation and Clean Air Fund will also participate.
