Last year, Uzbekistan drew $ 8.6 billion in foreign direct investmen, it was announced on 5 January meeting chaired by the Deputy PM Sardor Umrzakov.
At the meeting it was stated that in 2021 a total volume of disbursed investments reached 254 trillion soums, or US$ 23 billion, recording an increase of 109% compared to 2020, of which foreign direct investment was at $ 8.6 billion.
In 2021, 318 major investment projects worth $ 5.9 billion were implemented under the government’s investment program, and 15,710 investment projects worth $ 7.4 billion were implemented under regional investment programs. Reportedly, as a result of these projects, a total of more than 275,000 new jobs were created.
Reports were heard on measures taken to stimulate investment activity and introduce a new system to support project implementation.
In particular, the attendees discussed the progress of negotiations on Uzbekistan's membership in the World Trade Organization, the expansion of transport infrastructure and the increase of logistics capacity in the country.
