The Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Tashkent.
The MoU was signed by the Minister of Energy of Uzbekistan Alisher Sultanov and the Deputy Assistant Administrator of USAID for Central and South Asia, Javier Piedra, the Uzbek Ministry of Energy said.
It is aimed at implementing projects to improve energy efficiency, to promote use renewable energies and to support Uzbekistan’s participation in the Central Asian energy market.
There are examples of ongoing joint projects between the two countries, such as: Future Energy, Energy Connections, Central Asia Regional Electricity Market (CAREM), which are relevant today.
Javier Piedra noted that the CAREM project is intended to ensure access to reliable and affordable source of electricity for the Central Asian countries, in particular for Uzbekistan.
The signed MoU will be the beginning of close cooperation as part of the CAREM project, which aims to support the countries of the region for creating a new, economically viable, integrated electric power market.
