Today, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with a presentation on the improvement and digitalization of Uzbekistan’s customs system.

Reportedly, in recent years, the number of vehicles crossing the border has increased eightfold - almost 5 million. Customs revenues to the budget increased ninefold, exceeding 63 trillion soums last year.

The time for cargo clearance has been reduced to three hours for imports and 20 minutes for exports. In general, thanks to the simplification of procedures, almost 6,000 exporters and about 20 thousand importers were able to significantly save money and time, the report says.

In the international logistics ranking by customs indicator, Uzbekistan rose from 140th to 74th place.

However, there are still unresolved issues related to speeding up processes and increasing convenience. During the presentation, the president touched upon the new digitalization and automation measures.

Today, goods worth $ 1 billion are processed in the customs zone before export. It is planned to simplify the customs regime in order to increase the figure to 1.5 billion dollars this year.

Taking into account the growth of trade and tourism relations with neighboring countries, a twofold increase in passenger traffic and motor vehicle traffic across the border is expected. This requires the creation of additional infrastructure and an increase in the capacity of customs posts.

In particular, in order to increase international transportation, it is planned to introduce a system for preliminary receipt of information about passengers on bus routes, similar to air transportation. This should speed up border crossing and reduce the time for bus clearance by half.

In addition, it is proposed to introduce a system of "red" and "green" corridors for cars and buses in a test mode at the largest customs posts as an experiment. First Deputy Chairman of the Customs Committee Gairat Nosirov in an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel said that this system will significantly reduce the time it takes for passenger transport to cross the border.

It is also planned to use artificial intelligence technologies in customs surveillance. For this purpose, the risk analysis system will be improved with the support of World Bank specialists. It will assess the level of reliability of entrepreneurs based on 122 criteria, including financial stability, tax arrears and trade history.

In addition, artificial intelligence will be used to analyze X-ray images of goods with automatic risk detection.

The president instructed to bring customs legislation into line with WTO standards as part of Uzbekistan's accession to the organization. The training of specialists in the field of AI, digital technologies and risk analysis will also be strengthened.
