The Uzbekistan nuclear power plant project will be international, with various countries being able to be involved in it, said the first deputy chief/director of the development and international business unit at the Russian Rosatom Kirill Komarov, RIA Novosti said.

Negotiations between Uzbekistan and Russia on a contract for the nuclear power plant project are going “quite successfully,” Kirill Komarov underscored at a briefing on the sidelines of the Atomexpo-2024international forum in Sochi. It is planned that Rosatom would be the general contractor in this project.

“Some time was spent selecting a unique set of project partners. This will not only be a Russian project. This will be a project in which engineers and companies from around the world will be involved - from France, and from South Korea, and from other countries. We found a lot of options where we can get equipment from and how to turn it into a truly international project,” said Kirill Komarov.

In November 2023, the Uzbek Minister of Energy, Zhurabek Mirzamakhmudov announced that the country were still discussing the nuclear power plant project with Rosatom. He then noted that the experience and technologies of not only Russia, but also other countries are being reviewed. “Everything needs to be weighed, measured not 7 times, but 77 times,” he emphasized.
