The Head of the Government of the Russian Federation Dmitriy Medvedev signed an order approving the opening of a consulate general of Uzbekistan in Kazan (Tatarstan).

According to the document, the consular jurisdiction of the consulate will include Bashkiria, Mari El, Mordovia, Tatarstan, Udmurtia, Chuvashia, Perm Krai, Nizhny Novgorod, Orenburg, Penza, Samara, Saratov and Ulyanovsk provinces.

Dmitry Medvedev recommended that the Government of Tatarstan allocate office and residential premises for the consulate general for rental or purchase.

Currently, Uzbekistan is represented in Russia by an embassy in Moscow and a consulate in Novosibirsk. Uzbekistan also plans to open a consulate general in Yekaterinburg.
