President Mirziyoyev signed a decree on new steps aimed at improving the efficient use of water resources, conserving drinking water, and upgrading the billing system in the sector.
Under the decree, a "Water Conservation Month" will be held every March. During this period, awareness campaigns will be organized to promote water conservation, foster a culture of valuing water, and encourage the rational use of water resources.
Starting January 1, 2027, performance evaluation criteria for chiefs of executive government bodies and business associations, as well as their deputies, will include indicators on drinking water conservation and the installation of modern water meters capable of transmitting data remotely to regional water utilities.
From that date, executive government bodies and business associations that have not installed modern water meters will be placed under the oversight of the Prosecutor General's Office.
In addition, starting April 1, 2027, unified nationwide tariffs will be implemented for drinking water supply and wastewater services provided to budget-funded organizations.
Under the decree, a separate metering system will also be established to track the production and delivery of drinking water to consumers. This is expected to further improve cost efficiency and service quality in the sector.
