A high-ranking banking official in the Andijan province has been apprehended while accepting a substantial bribe. According to reports, the deputy head of an Andijan provincial branch of a major national bank abused his authority over the sale of properties held as loan collateral. Seeking personal gain, he allegedly engaged in a series of illegal maneuvers.
Investigations revealed that the official targeted a four-story private medical center in Asaka district, which was valued at 16.8 billion soums but had failed to sell at auction. He promised a local entrepreneur that he could lower the property's price to 12 billion soums, transfer it to the bank’s balance sheet, and then arrange for the businessman to acquire it without an auction—all through a seven-year interest-free loan.
In exchange for this "favor," the official demanded a $90,000 bribe.
During a sting operation conducted by the State Security Service (DXX), the official was caught red-handed while accepting an initial payment of $40,000.
A criminal case has been launched, and investigations are currently underway. Law enforcement agencies have urged the public to report similar illegal activities to the relevant authorities, highlighting that the DXX's "1520" hotline is available for anonymous tips and that confidentiality is strictly guaranteed.
