Uzatom and Rosatom signed an agreement on a large-scale nuclear power plant project in Uzbekistan, the Rosatom said in a statement today.

The Common Terms Agreement for the Construction of a Large-Scale Nuclear Power Plant in the Republic of Uzbekistan was signed by Uzatom's Director Azim Akhmedkhadzhaev and the CEO of Rosatom Alexey Likhachev on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

In Uzbekistan, a small modular power plant is the first export product of a modern small nuclear power plant on the planet. We are currently working on expanding the project and are working on the design of two more large power units at this gigawatt-class site, Likhachev said.

The Russian Deputy PM Alexander Novak added that the parties were discussing the economic parameters of the Uzbekistan nuclear power plant.

Today, specific economic parameters are being discussed. These are two 1000 MW units and two 55 MW units. For the first time, ever we will implement a small-scale nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan, he said.

According to him, Russia has previously implemented small nuclear power plants only in the form of floating power units. The Uzbekistan plant will be the first reference (tested) low-power land-based installation.
