Fences and checkpoints have been removed from railway stations in Uzbekistan, including those in Tashkent, the Uzbekistan Railways said.
Now, passengers are not required to show tickets and IDs when entering the station.
The only inspection area is inside the station buildings, where only luggage is put through X-ray machine.
The Tashkent Central station now have An escalator at the exit to the platforms. This kind of escalators are planned to be built at other stations.
The company noted that security measures remain in place, but have been revised taking into account the created facilities for passengers and international experience.
"We have been moving towards this in phases. The purpose of these improvements is more comfortable conditions for passengers, cutting queues and improving the efficiency of service at train stations,” the company added.
In 2021, the president signed a decree allowing free access to airports and train stations, subject to safety requirements.
In August 2024, the departure hall of Tashkent International Airport finally got rid of its fences, and a large lounge for passengers and those seeing them off appeared in it. This month, similar changes took place in the arrivals hall - those meeting passengers can now enter the building for the first time in many years.
The vast majority of airport buildings in Uzbekistan are still surrounded by fences.
