President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the progress of Uzbekistan's accession to the World Trade Organization and discussed steps to expedite this process, the presidential press service said.
Reportedly, the of WTO joining process has been under the president’s control since 2023. During this time, four meetings of the Working Group were completed, at which over 500 matters were reviewed.
As for the bilateral track, market access negotiations were held with 33 countries, of which 24 were successfully completed.
"WTO members positively evaluated Uzbekistan’s new approach and the reforms program," the statement added.
In terms of aligning national legislation in line with WTO requirements, legal and institutional reforms are being implemented. In particular, 13 laws, 10 presidential decrees, 19 resolutions of the Cabinet of Ministers and 10 interdepartmental regulatory legal acts have been adopted.
Procedures in the customs regulation, export-import operations and intellectual property have been harmonized. Exclusive rights of six enterprises with state participation have been cancelled.
During the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev gave directives on expediting and organizing systematically the process of joining the WTO.
In particular, by the end of the year, it is necessary to complete bilateral negotiations with the remaining 9 countries, hold two more meetings of the Working Group and complete the preparation of the draft final report of the Working Group, thereby securing Uzbekistan's international obligations within the WTO.
The President also pointed out the need to expedite the adoption of about 15 regulations, including the development of new versions of the Quality and Safety of Food Products Law, the Protective Measures, Anti-Dumping And Countervailing Duties Law in cooperation with the Legislative Chamber.
He outlined the importance of reforms in technical regulation, sanitary, phytosanitary and veterinary spheres, as well as improving the quality of personnel training in these areas.
