Prices for methane have increased to 5,200-5,300 soums per cubic meter at CNG filling stations (AGNS) in Tashkent and other provinces of Uzbekistan starting today.

Previously, the price of natural gas for cars ranged from 3,900 to 4,250 soums, depending on the province. These tariffs have been in effect since August 2024. Despite the abolition of the maximum ceiling on retail prices for methane for CNG filling stations, verbal restrictions were in effect.

The methane price has risen against the backdrop of the taking effect of new tariffs for electricity and natural gas for households, which were originally planned to be introduced on April 1. The price of natural gas for CNG filling stations has increased by 38.9% since May 1 - from 1,800 to 2,500 soums per cubic meter (+ 38.8%).

When the government decided to postpone the increase in tariffs for energy resources, it was considering a proposal according to which the Competition Development and Consumer Rights Protection Committee was to set a maximum retail prices for liquefied gas sold at gas stations in the period from May to August in the event of an unjustified increase in prices. It was envisaged that until September 1, 2025, the committee should review this tariff every 15 days and gradually liberalize it.

However, these proposals were not included in the signed government resolution.

Against the backdrop of the upcoming rise in methane prices, the stock exchange price of propane has increased by 21.5% over the past week (from April 22 to April 29) — from 5.27 million to 6.4 million soums per ton.

In early April, the Antitrust Committee monitored methane prices after some CNG filling stations began to raise the price of gas to 4,100 soums amid increased excise taxes and other prices.
