The first-ever meeting of the chiefs of security agencies of the Central Asian countries took place in Tashkent, which focused on enhancing regional cooperation in addressing modern security threats and challenges.

The meeting was organized as part of Uzbekistan’s chairmanship ahead of the 7th Central Asia Summit. At the opening ceremony, a message from President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was read out to the participants. In his address, the president emphasized that dialogue between the intelligence agencies of Central Asia would contribute to developing joint approaches and effective mechanisms to ensure regional security.

During the meeting, the parties focused on shaping common approaches to assessing modern security threats and risks in the region. Enhancing the efficiency of cooperation among intelligence agencies in countering these threats was another key topic of discussion.

They also exchanged views on urgent issues related to regional security, counter-terrorism, extremism, the illicit trafficking of narcotics and weapons, transnational crime, and the safeguarding of information and cybersecurity. They also discussed other mutually beneficial areas of cooperation.

Reportedly, the event marked an important milestone in the development of security cooperation among Central Asian states and laid the foundation for regular meetings of the region’s intelligence chiefs aimed at further enhancing peace and stability across Central Asia.
