Today, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the trilateral talks with the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov in Khujand.
Following the talks, the three leaders inked the historic Treaty on Junction Point of State Borders of Three Countries and the Joint Declaration of the Heads of State.
Then the leaders remotely opened the Friendship Stele at the junction of the state borders of the three countries.
According to the press service of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Uzbek leader congratulated the Tajik and Kyrgyz leaders on the final resolution of all issues and the signing of the Treaty on the demarcation of the state border on March 13. Two checkpoints on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border, closed since 2021, have resumed operation, and flights from Bishkek to Dushanbe and Khujand have been launched.
He emphasized that this document, as well as the Treaty on the Junction Point of the State Borders of the Three Countries, would serve to ensure stability and sustainable development, and enhance the international authority of the entire region.
The Friendship Stele will become a new symbol of the strengthening relations of good-neighborliness, trust, and strategic partnership between fraternal countries, Shavkat Mirziyoyev added.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the first Central Asia-European Union summit and the Climate Forum dedicated to common environmental challenges in the region would be held in Samarkand this week.
Central Asia - Gulf Arab States Summit will take place in May, and the seventh Central Asia Summit will be held in September.
The President of Uzbekistan focused on the development of close cooperation between border regions. He noted that in recent years, Uzbekistan's trade with Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan has increased dozens of times. Almost half of this volume is in the border regions.
He pointed out the need for comprehensive modernization and expansion of customs points at the borders, as well as the formation of a convenient, modern trade and logistics infrastructure.
He proposed to work out the issue of creating a trilateral trading platform, with the organization of a permanent exhibition and fair of industrial and agricultural products.
An agreement was reached to continue developing transport links between the countries. This concerns increasing the frequency and expanding the geography of flights, as well as launching new bus routes between cities in the border regions.
They focused on promoting large regional projects in the field of "green" energy and transport, programs in the field of water and ecology.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized that more active work of governments in the economic direction should bring quick, real results aimed at improving the well-being of our peoples.
He proposed holding joint concerts and friendship festivals in the border regions annually during the celebration of Navruz and expressed his readiness to organize such events next year in Fergana.
