Uzbekistan is mulling to join the common customs transit system of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and a third party, stated the Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov at the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Almaty Friday.

According to him, this move is being considered to optimize and simplify cargo transportation procedures between the countries.

Abdulla Aripov proposed to begin developing a draft agreement on the non-application of tariff and non-tariff restrictions on a reciprocal basis in the two-way trade between Uzbekistan and the EAEU.

The head of government also indicated that Tashkent was ready to consider joining the mechanism for financial support for cooperation projects in industries launched within the EAEU.

He added that Uzbekistan eyed to systematically interact with the union in the field of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.

“In order to build a common digital space, we are ready to jointly develop approaches to connecting Uzbekistan to the integrated information system of the EAEU and the digital project of the union Digital Union,” he said.

PM Aripov pointed to the importance of introducing innovative methods in agricultural production, strengthening scientific work in the field of selection and smart agriculture, as well as ensuring stable food supplies.

The agreement on common customs transit system between the Eurasian Economic Union and a third party was approved in November 2023 and signed on December 26, 2024. The main goal of the agreement is to ensure "seamless" cargo transportation, that is, the most convenient and efficient logistics between the participants.

This could be achieved through the use of a single transit declaration in the form of an electronic document, the use of a single security for performance of the obligation to pay customs duties, taxes, special, anti-dumping, countervailing duties, the use of certain special simplifications provided to authorized economic operators of the EAEU countries and third parties.
