The Senate at its plenary session reviewed and passed the Space Activities Bill. According to the senators, the use of space technologies in the economic sectors helped to identify about 47 thousand violations in 2023, while as of December this year, more than 100 thousand cases of near-violations were recorded.
At the same time, the need for space images and the findings of their analyses is growing from year to year for defense and security. Over the past 4 years, the need for space images in this area has increased by 6.6 times.
However, today there is no regulation in the field of space activities, to outline a single state policy in the implementation of space activities, its principles and goals, as well as clearly regulate the powers of state bodies related to the field.
The Bill outlined the basic concepts and principles of space activities, the goals of the implementation of activities, and the main axes of state policy in the field of space activities. It has defined the powers of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Digital Technologies and the Agency for Space Research and Technologies under it, and the Ministry of Defense in the field of space activities.
