On October 31, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the law "On Ratification of the Agreement on the Establishment of an International Organization for the Russian Language".
The proposal to create this organization under the auspices of the CIS was made by the President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokaev at the summit of the leaders of the CIS states held in Astana in October 2022. Based on the proposal, an agreement on the creation of the organization was signed at the summit of the heads of the CIS states held in Bishkek on October 13, 2023.
The goals and tasks of the organization include supporting quality education in Russian, assisting in the training of pedagogues and scientific personnel in the fields of "Russian language and literature" and "Russian as a foreign language", as well as forming a reserve of experts in this field.
In addition, the organization is engaged in strengthening the all-round mutually beneficial cooperation of the CIS countries in the issues of support and promotion of the Russian language as an interstate communication language.
To date, the agreement has been ratified by Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan.
