On August 26, the Cabinet of Ministers approved changes to the procedure for issuing protection orders to women who have suffered from harassment and violence, Norma.uz said.

The changes and addenda provide for:

  • issuance of a protection order to women who have suffered from harassment and violence through the Unified Portal of Interactive Governmental Services (UPIGS);
  • issuance of an online order;
  • automation of the process of issuing a protection order;

The changes stipulate that a protection order shall be issued by a local policeman within 24 hours from the moment a situation of pressure and violence or the risk of their occurrence is detected. At the same time, the registration and issuance of a protection order through the UPIGS shall be free of charge.

From December 1, should two or more cases of harassment and violence be identified during one calendar year, a protection order shall be issued by a local policeman on his initiative.
