Olympic judo champion Diyora Keldiyorova has been appointed social commissioner of the National Agency for Social Protection to Combat Gender Inequality and Violence against Children, the agency's first deputy director Shakhnoza Mirziyoyeva announced on her Instagram page.

This decision is not just an administrative decision, but a symbol of deep positive changes in our society. Her Olympic victory has become a catalyst for progressive changes, demonstrating to the world that Uzbekistan is a country of “equal opportunities” and unlimited potential, she wrote.

"Diyora personifies the versatility of a modern Uzbek woman - she is a loving daughter, a faithful wife, a respectful daughter-in-law, and at the same time, an Olympic champion who has successfully represented our country on the world stage," Shakhnoza Mirziyoyeva noted.

"Her new role as social commissioner is a powerful signal to all women in Uzbekistan: you can reach any goal in any field while maintaining traditional family values," the statement said.

Shakhnoza Mirziyoyeva expressed confidence that Diyora Keldiyorova’s activities “would not only accelerate the achievement of gender equality in our country, but will also strengthen Uzbekistan’s position as a progressive state in the international arena, inspiring women around the world.”

Diyora Keldiyorova, who defeated Distria Krasniqi from Kosovo in the Olympic final, became the first female athlete in the history of Uzbekistan to win gold in judo and the first female athlete in the country to win gold at the Summer Olympics.

“My mission is to change the lives of women in Uzbekistan,” the 26-year-old athlete said after her victory.
