On the sidelines of the UN GA Assembly in New York, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the president of the Korea Republic Yun Seok-yol.

The two leaders discussed the ways to further advance special strategic partnership ties between Uzbekistan and South Korea and expand multilateral cooperation.

They noted that the bilateral relations, based on close friendship ties from time immemorial, similarity of mentality, traditions and values of the peoples, were consistently developing.

Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted on upgrading the bilateral economic agenda with South Korea.

In recent years, the two-way trade and investment figures have been steadily increasing. Last year, trade increased by 24 percent. About a thousand joint ventures are operating in Uzbekistan, the volume of investments from Korea has surpassed 7 billion dollars.

The counterparts commended the effective cooperation with the Korea International Cooperation Agency, Exim Bank of Korea and its funds for many years, the total portfolio of joint projects with them stands at over 3 billion dollars.

At the meeting, expansion of technological and investment partnership with leading companies of South Korea, acceleration of socially significant projects in the fields of education and health, promotion of joint projects in infrastructure, "green" energy, digitalization, personnel training and other areas were identified as priorities of practical cooperation.

At the end of the negotiations, the head of state offered an invitation to Yoon Seok Yol to come to Uzbekistan on a state visit.
