President Shavkat Mirziyoyev familiarized himself with a presentation on the progress of chemical industry projects and upcoming steps for their diversification Tuesday.
According to the presented information, , 23 new enterprises have been commissioned in the industry over the past five years, with over 4,000 jobs created, and production volume increasing by 1.5 times.
The modernization of Kokand superphosphate plant, creation of clusters in Navoi, Fergana and Kungrad, and technology parks in Chirchik and Jizzakh resulted in global brands entering the industry and production of small-tonnage products.
Reportedly, in the first quarter of this year, $181 million in investments were attracted to the industry, and $39 million worth of three projects were launched.
Before the third quarter, green hydrogen and cyanide salt production units are planned to completed by attracting an additional $170 million in foreign investment.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev stressed the importance of digitalization of the chemical sector. In particular, the development of the Unified Digital Platform will be continued, which is planned to reflect 15 key economic indicators of enterprises. Also, new digital modules are being introduced into the unified treasury system of chemical plants.
Speaking about energy efficiency issues, the president pointed out to the need to reduce the cost of production through energy conservation and rational use of production capacities.
Along with the achieved results, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted that the industry still has significant untapped potential. The demand for chemical products in the country is growing, and external instability requires more flexible and thoughtful approaches, he added.
He instructed to develop a new chemical industry development program, which should take into account modern challenges, forecasts and be focused on deepening localization, diversification of production and increasing the share of products with high added value.
The CEO of Uzkimyosanoat (which includes a number of chemical enterprises) Odil Temirov in an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel said that 3.7 trillion soums worth of chemical products manufactured in the first quarter, and export volumes value reached 115 million dollars.
The Saudi company ACWA Power has been implementing the Chirchik green hydrogen production complex project since the end of November 2023, to be located at the existing ammonia plant.
The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has offered a financial package of $ 65 million to ACWA Power UKS Green H2 for the development, design, construction and operation of the facility. This specially created company is jointly owned by Uzkimyosanoat and ACWA Power (an international developer, investor, co-owner and operator of power and desalinated water plants).
