In July 1, 2017, there were 29,397 foreign nationals in custody in Russian prisons, of which 97 nationals of EU countries, 12 US nationals. Among the CIS countries, the most numerous being Tajiks (8002), Uzbeks (6362), Ukrainians (4761) and Azerbaijanis (2350).
